Tips on Raising a Musical Child

Raising a child with a lifelong passion for music can start even before birth. Research has demonstrated that while still in the womb, a baby can hear and react to music in his or her immediate environment. Whether you’re a trained vocalist or an amateur, your child will still appreciate it so sing to your child, even before they’re born! Likewise, dancing with your child can not only create happy music-related memories, but also teach a child to enjoy the physical rhythms of music and even burn some calories, as well as instilling a healthy relationship with his or her body.

Action songs that illustrate the lyrics with physical movement allow you to combine the previous tapes. Songs like London Bridge or Ring around the Rosie allow you to tell your child a simple story while also demonstrating the relationship between the song and its lyrics. Playing your favorite music for your child and allowing him or her to observe your enjoyment of the song will also introduce the concept that music is something that can be appreciated in and of itself. Stay tuned for more tips!
