Trombone

Trombone Lessons

TROMBONE-AN INTRODUCTION

tromboneThe Trombone is a brass instrument that comes in many sizes and produces a sound that is lower than a trumpet. As with all brass instruments, the sound is produced by the way your lips rest on the instrument and vibrate. For this reason alone, it is necessary to make sure you have one of our experienced trombone teachers who will help you feel comfortable playing.

Our trombone teachers will spend time on breathing techniques with you. Over time, you will learn how to inhale and exhale properly so you can have the most control and produce different sounds and tones. Practice is the only way to create the control you need so you can breathe deeply enough and control how you release the air through the instrument. Lessons in trombone will teach you that embouchure or the way you hold the instrument in your mouth is very important as well. You need to strengthen the sides of your mouth and gain control and strength. Without this control, you will be playing the instrument improperly and will never be able to play to your best of your ability.

The trombone is different from the trumpet in the way you play. The trumpet has valves that you learn to play but the trombone uses a slide. In trombone lessons, you will learn that the slide can be moved to seven different positions. As you move the slide, it will create a range of notes based on how you are holding the instrument on your lips. You must also be able to extend the slide out as you are exhaling to create different notes. There are many different aspects to playing the trombone and that is why a trained teacher is necessary so you can start off from the beginning with the proper skills. These skills when taught correctly from the beginning will allow you to create good habits and play to the best of your ability.

In trombone lessons, you will discover that the trombone is an instrument that will open up many avenues for you to pursue. You can play in a marching band, military bands, brass bands, and concert bands. The trombone will allow you to create music from classical to jazz. It can open up many doors for a child academically and give them the confidence they need to become more outgoing and focused. When a child has the confidence in something s/he does, and feels comfortable with his/herself, s/he will excel in all parts of his/her life.
