Origins of Country Music


Many people might be surprised to find out that country music, long thought to be a purely American construct, is actually the product of the interaction of several different cultures. Early settlers from Scotland, England, and Ireland brought their fiddles and a love for homegrown music with them when they emigrated to the New World. It was this fusion of styles, coupled with African American influences that created what we know as country today.
